How do you feel about urban poverty around the world?

Urban poverty exists in developing countries but it is also apparent in cities of developed nations. On my trip to Amsterdam I noticed very few homeless people compared to my home city in Canada, but many people still struggle with poverty. What is your view on poverty in cities? Please keep in mind that this is an issue that affects many factors including quality of life, health, water quality, the environment, economic activity and even correlated factors such as crime and education opportunities.
