Is it wrong for my bf to say this to me? ?

I have really think straight hair and its hard for me to curl it, but last weekend for my bday I found an easy way to do it and I believe I looked really good. So today I told my bf that I was gonna curl it for tomorrow when I go to work. (I'm a cashier) so he said not to curl it (its more wavy than curly like kim kardashians loose curls) and I asked why he said don't ask just do. So I insisted, and he finally said "when you look good what do guys do?" I said "they holler" he said exactly. So why would I let you go to work like that. I didn't say much, but just ok I won't curl my hair. My question is, does he have the right on telling me that? Or that's up to me. My thing is a guy is always going to holler regardless its up to me to put a stop to it. I really just want to do something different for myself so I can feel good
