What popular historical questions or debates are there surrounding the rule of Mao Zedong in China?

The debate about Mao like the debate about Castro and Che has subsided .these guys are not as popular as they were. Marxist theoreticians are far and few between these days.The student population has moved on as have fashions in T-shirts.Maybe in a genearation or so someone will write a (series of ) thesis/theses about their place in history.
